Old Zuni eagle bolo

Old Zuni eagle bolo

Great older Zuni inlaid bolo in the form of a bald eagle holding a snake, with matching tips of full smaller eagles. Dating this to somewhere in the 1940s. It originally had a handmade clasp, later converted to a Bennett (Pat Pend, C-31) clasp. Solid, well-done inlays of jet, natural turquoise and white shell, left just rough enough to be interesting. The central eagle measures about 2 1/4″ tall x about 2 3/8″ wide. Each eagle tip measures about 1 1/8″ tall x 1 1/4″ wide. In good old condition with wear and bits of soil stuck in corners.

Coyote Storyteller by Virgil Ortiz

Coyote Storyteller by Virgil Ortiz

Son of renowned potter Seferina Ortiz, Virgil mastered and then expanded his family’s pottery tradition. In this case, the Cochiti tradition of storytellers morphed into a howling coyote family. This coyote storyteller is an example of his transitional work – well beyond traditional, before his dramatic pierced and tattooed figures. This piece measures 4 3/4″ tall and wide and about 4″ tail to front feet. Fully marked on the bottom, “VIRGIL ORTIZ, COCHITI PUEBLO” his symbol and a date that I am not certain about but it looks like 2001.

This is an opportunity to acquire an early piece by a renowned artist at an affordable price!

The piece is in very good condition overall with surface soil and scoot marks on the underside. Note that this piece came from a smoking home.

Huge brooch by Presley Curley, coral, turquoise

Huge brooch by Presley Curley, coral, turquoise

A stunning brooch! By Navajo artist Presley Curley, this is a very large and impressive coral and turquoise pin. Although Presley is a Navajo silversmith, he also mastered the Zuni cluster style. Well made, the brooch has hand cut and filed bezels holding 20 red coral and 29 turquoise cabochons around the edge and nine turquoise stones in the center. The center stone has the color of Bisbee but has pyrite so it is probably Kingman or Morenci. Signed on the reverse, PC. Well made, substantial, very satisfying piece.

Tall ship and tugboat in a bottle

Tall ship and tugboat in a bottle

Nautical folk art, a wonderful old bottle with, not one but two old boats. The largest is a tall ship with all the rigging and sails but it is accompanied by a smaller tug boat. You can see the bumpers lining each side of the tug. And, best of all, the tug has a bit of smoke (tuft of wool?) coming from its smokestack.

The bottle measures 9 1/4″ tall x 4 1/2″ wide. There is a tiny drip of something inside the bottle, in one area, at the base of the neck. You have to look hard to see it but the lid does come off so someone could clean it.

Note that professional shipping for this piece is necessary. Cost will be determined before shipping.

Fine line olla by Acoma artist, Lucy Lewis

Fine line olla by Acoma artist, Lucy Lewis

This is a stunning pot. Like much of the best Acoma Pueblo artists’ work, this is surprisingly light when you pick it up. Hand coiled, finely shaped and delicately painted with Lucy’s signature “fine line” technique. At just over 4 1/2″ tall x 5″ wide at the shoulder, it’s a lovely hand size. There is minimal surface wear (small rubs) and I see a small surface “pop” but no other notable issues.
