First edition of "For Whom The Bell Tolls" by Ernest Hemingway. Published by Charles Scribner´s Sons, 1940, copyright 1940 by Ernest Hemingway. This is the first edition with the photo of Hemingway on the back of the jacket. Beige cloth boards with title, author and publisher in black on red on the spine and "Ernest Hemingway" on the front cover. The book itself is in very good condition, the spine is tight and the pages clean with just light soil at the edges of the cover and on a few of the front pages. Unfortunately a previous owner glued a bookplate on the inside front cover and wrote their name and date in ink on the first page. The dustjacket is in poor to fair condition with many small tears, wrinkles and some losses. Note that the large chunk out of the lower spine of the jacket that is loose, does exist and it will be sent with the book. Please ask anything if you would like more information.
